Production Diary - BRUT Advert

17/12/13 - Today we were put into our groups for the advert project, my group was myself, George and Vlad. We discussed which idea would be the best/most achievable. Overall we ended up deciding it would be best to go with George's idea; rebranding BRUT.

18/12/13 - George, Vlad and I began to write a shot list for shooting the advert, we planned 20 shots. We then began to draw up the storyboards, we each completed a storyboard for 6 shots which is how many an A3 sheet consists of. We found that the storyboards took a lot of time and attention, therefore we were unable to complete all of the storyboards this lesson.

19/12/13 - Today, I wasn't about. However, George and Vlad finished off the pre-production paperwork. They completed the risk assessment, the storyboards, the budgeting sheet, the production schedule and the child/adult releases. They did a great job of keeping up with the right amount of work completed and we can now concentrate on the production part of the creation process when I get back after Christmas.

7/1/14 - Today we began shooting at Lucia's house (this was our set). We worked together with the other group so that we could both use the house, and each other for our videos. We got along surprisingly well in my opinion, there were little to no disputes. Shot-wise today wasn't great, we had traffic issues on the way to Lucia's house so we only got around 5 shots done.

8/1/14 - Went back to Lucia's today, we managed to get a good majority of our ad filmed and had most of the shots needed. Although, certain shots were needed that included the girlfriend character, that we just couldn't film today. However, on Friday we will be able to take them when Fallon (George's girlfriend) will be able to help out. We also used Lucia and Guy in the ad to play the role of my parents.

9/1/14 - Today we stayed at college and did a rough edit of our advert. This was stupidly helpful because it allowed us to understand any plot holes/continuity errors, and work out what shots needed to be filmed/refilmed. Friday is our last day on principal photography, and we know exactly what we need.

10/1/14 - This was our last day of shooting our BRUT advert. We got all the shots we needed with time to spare, and everyone worked well together. Afterwards we helped the other group film their advert. Overall, a successful day.

14/1/14 - Today our advert went into picture lock! George, Vlad and I took turns at editing, and it's actually turning out really well! Next time we move on to audio.

15/1/14 - Started off on audio today, we found a good piece of music from the honorable Kevin Macleod on Incompetech, and begin doing ADR. Lucia wasn't in, so we couldn't record all the lines.

16/1/14 - Carried on tweaking audio, recorded some more ADR etc. We forgot to record a wildtrack at Lucia's house, so I had to do one in W16, which was not ideal at all. It resulted in some background noise that didn't fit at all to the setting, but mistakes are always made.

17/1/14 - Finishing tweaks and finished our advert! In my opinion it came out really well! Just has to be uploaded to YouTube now.

  1. ADR? Did you have to replace some dialogue or do you just mean sorting out ambient sounds etc? Good
