DepicT! - A Better (and Final) Idea

So, space cups didn't make the cut.

Instead, we chose to produce an amalgamation of my colleagues Angelo and Tom's ideas.

The idea centers around a jazz poet who performs to an uninterested public, when a beatboxer turns up and begins competing. They continue competing until they realize that they could become more than the sum of their parts if they work together, at which point the jazz poet begins rapping to the beat and more people become interested. Overall, I think we decided to go with this because it's simple and easy to film given the circumstances, yet is also entertaining enough to be a viable project to pursue. We all agreed that Space Cups was a solid idea, and certainly had enough meat behind it, but unfortunately too much to fit into 90 seconds. I certainly feel like we wouldn't be able to do the concept justice, and fully explore all the possibilities within 90 seconds. So, we went with something more simple.

SHOT LIST

1. Wide shot of bus stop. Bluey-grey tint. People look bored. Jazz poet walks in.

2. Match-on-action, mid shot. Jazz poet says hello, and introduces himself.

3. Side on shot of jazz poet, everyone else looking bored in shot as he begins his poetry.

4+5. A few close-ups of people looking bored, annoyed, and mildly disgruntled.

6. Close-up of the jazz poet, still really going for it. The poem finishes.

7. Wide shot bus stop. Total silence. Everyone is on the other side of the bus stop to the jazz poet. A couple of people shake their heads in anguish.

8. Side shot of bus stop, other side. Beatboxer walks to bus stop, and sits down.

9. Match-on action, front on, bus stop. Beatboxer sits down.

10. Mid shot. Beatboxer begins beatboxing, quietly at first. A couple of people shuffle away from him, uneasily.

11. Over-the shoulder shot, beatboxer in foreground and jazz poet in background. Focus shift from beatboxer to jazz poet, who looks intrigued.

12. 2 shot, beatboxer on the left, jazz poet on the right. Beatboxer trails off when he realises everyone has shuffled away from him. Silence.

13. Re-establishing shot, showing everyone on the other side of the bus stop.

14. Mid/close up, jazz poet. He begins his next poem. Pan over to beatboxer, who begins putting a beat to the poem.

15. Mid, reaction shot of people at bus stop, beginning to look mildly interested.

16. Shot-reverse-shot of beatboxer and poet, with a newfound burst of confidence, they begin to get more into it.

17. Another re-establishing shot of bus stop, instead of looking uncomfortable people are nodding their heads in appreciation. One person gets their phone out and begins filming.

18. Side shot of bus stop, people looking into it. Pans over to shot of bus approaching.

19. Wide shot of bus stop as bus obscures everyone, and leaves. No-one is there except the jazz poet and the beatboxer. They exchange looks, and part ways. Fade.
