DepicT! - An Idea
I have come up with but one idea for my DepicT! entry.
It centers around a cup which fails to function as a normal cup, since it has an opening to outer space at the bottom. It chronicles a group of friend's quest to deal with this unusual phenomenon.
In a bit more detail, it starts with someone walking in on a group of people intently studying said cup. Having no idea why they are so interested in what appears to be a simple plastic cup, he asks them what they're doing, but they quickly hush him, saying that this is an important issue. Still confused, the new addition to the group asks why, at which point the rest of the group explain. Even more confused, he wonders why this is such a disaster, and it's revealed that the group can't have coffee if they're a cup down. Faced with this new problem, the group decide to push a PVC pipe down the cup, thereby closing the cup and making it much larger at the same time.
I understand that this idea in its current form may run over 90 seconds, but it is only a preliminary idea and can change at any point down the line. It may not even happen. But it's an idea.
SHOT LIST
1. Open on a side-on shot, close up, of someone looking intently at a cup. Other people move into shot from behind the foremost person, also studying said cup.
2. Shot of door as someone opens it and walks through.
3. Match-on action to over-the-shoulder of the person walking through the door, overlooking the circle of 2 people looking at the cup.
4. Shot-reverse-shot continuing from the last one of the newcomer looking confused and about to ask what's going on.
5. Quick cut back to the group, who instantly cut him off and shush him.
6. Side shot of the two parties opposing each other. Silence for a second or two.
7. Over-the-shoulder looking at the group, one of them says 'We have an issue.'
8. Cut to newcomer, who says 'What? It's just a cup-'
9. Mid shot of the other two. Obviously distraught, one of them stands up quickly and snaps 'Just a cup!? Look.'
10. Cut to newcomer, now a little intrigued, walking gingerly up to the table.
11. Anterior shot of the other two with a space between them. The newcomer sits between them, and the three all look into the camera (POV shot from the cup's perspective)
12. Arcing shot of the cup, revealing the space landscape within.
13. Cut back to anterior POV, newcomer now looks extremely confused. 'Is that...?' 'Outer space, yeah.'
14. Side on shot, all three leaning in toward the cup on one side, the cup on the other side. The newcomer reaches over and waves his hand over the back of the cup. 'Huh.'
15. Back to anterior shot, slightly wider now, includes cup in shot. 'We can't have coffee if we only have two cups.'
16+17. Shot-reverse shot of the middle person talking to the other two. 'How is outer space inside one of our cups, anyway?'
18. Close up, side shot. Person on the side. They look grave and serious. 'It doesn't matter. All that matters is that we get our coffee.'
19. Anterior shot. 'Can't two of us just share a cup?' The other two look at him like he's crazy.
20. Cut to black. End.
